Look, I know what you’re thinking: "Why is there a vintage dual-windshield fiberglass runabout balancing precariously over the deep end of an in-ground pool?"
Here’s the story. My Grandpa moved out to Tucson back in the 80s. He loved the Sonoran Desert, but after about six months of staring at saguaros, he deeply missed being on the open water. Since Patagonia Lake was too far of a drive for him, he paid a local crane operator a couple hundred bucks and a case of Coors to drop an entire 18-foot Crestliner motorboat directly into his backyard swimming pool.
For the last several years, Grandpa would sit in the captain's chair in his swimming trunks, crank up the radio, mix a pitcher of margaritas, and pretend he was cruising down the Santa Cruz River during monsoon season.
Grandpa has since moved into an assisted living facility, and it’s finally time to get the boat out of the pool so we can actually swim without ducking under a hull.
